Many of the practices of what is now being called energy psychology have their origins among aboriginal peoples. In this presentation, I will review these energy psychology practices, focused especially upon the aboriginal people of North America, where a range of practices exist that are loosely translated as “doctoring”.

Addictions, including eating disorders, are phenomena of the brain. This presentation provides an overview of the brain specifically related to the dynamics of substance dependence and behavioral addictions. The psychological and social dynamics will be clearly stated along with the neurobiological dynamics. Specific attention will be paid to how these phenomena develop. The net result is a brain that is overly sensitive to any form of stress whether internally or externally induced. These stressors historically lead to a progression of the addiction experience and to on-going relapse into old behaviors. A five-step paradigm will be introduced that describes a process in which the first three steps develop awareness of the relapse dynamic at subtle levels and the last two steps introduce specific Energy Psychology interventions to mitigate the stressors altogether thus interrupting the relapse process.
